Situated on a beautiful oak-holly grove in Little Compton, Rhode Island, this beautiful building is the epitome of traditional vernacular form adapted to suit the ideals of our modern lifestyles. The owners are both artists, each having their own studio in the shed portion of the building. This shed portion is clad with fiber cement panels from Germany. The starkness of this form is sharply contrasted with the traditional barn form of the main house clad completely in red cedar. The interior is clean and modern to suit a minimalist lifestyle. Conceptually designed by Caleb Messier, the final design, detailing, contracting and construction were carried out in a collaborative effort between Caleb Messier, Adaptive Craft, Sixteen On Center and the thorough input of the owners. Processing the final design and detail decisions during the course of construction required an intimate knowledge of the project, the materials, and the original vision. Robert Bauer and Bronlyn Jones’ artwork can be seen at Forum Gallery in New York and Barbara Krakow Gallery in Boston, respectively.

About Us

Sixteen on Center was founded by Jeremy Broderick, Josh Fogg and Todd Strunk. We are a modest design/build firm based in Tiverton, Rhode Island. We offer complete project services; from initial planning and feasibility, to conceptual and design development, to framing and finish carpentry. We focus on designing spatially conscious, site sensitive projects which address the owners needs. Our aesthetics are driven by the local New England vernacular, although we feel it is important to approach the design process with a modern (forward thinking) eye. We promote the use of natural materials, green building practices, and a high level of craftsmanship. Our projects are completed through close interaction between the owner and our team of professionals; resulting in a rewarding design and construction experience that produces exceptional buildings. Through great sacrifices, compromises, and endurance Sixteen on Center has produced many amazing projects and become an accomplished design/build firm.
